Jinhua Chen : Figurative Abstract Imagery
It could be found the culture and history in a sincere artist’s works. Mr. Chen expressed different views with different artistic language, and this was Mr.Chen.
His lacquer painting showed the respect to the tradition by combining the historical consciousness and country complex. His work presented a touching beauty for its art particularity, which reflected his humanitarian spirit. His lacquer paintings “Far Sound”, “The Prosperous and Peaceful Time” and “The Flying Song on the Ground” were respectively awarded the highest honor “Gold&Silver Award” in Chinese fine arts in the year of 1994, 1999, 2002, and 2004, which caused a sensation in the society. At the invitation of general office of the standing committee of NPC, Mr.Chen created“Exquisite Beauty” and “Green Cloud”. Mr.Chen said he was meant to be with the lacquer painting, and was just blessed the god.
Desire of creation inspired him to continuously explore the diversity of the subjects and the language. When he was creating, he would not be fettered by the tradition and theory. Therefore his painting was full of the different art characteristics: the texture of the oil painting, the charm of the Chinese painting,etc. However he would not leave the quaintness of the lacquer painting alone. His tolerant attitude made his painting flexible and outstanding.
"Exuberant" and "Warm Sun" were used the composition of Chinese painting and the splash-ink skill of the ink painting , which created an extraordinary atmosphere, showed lotus nobleness, and deduced the artist's inner world. Paint wrinkle technique and the design of the silver foil created the feeling of the depth change of skin texture and the sense of water, producing the artistic conception to make the viewer keep the state of exploring the visual tension towards the picture. Some critics believed that Mr.Chen focused on the thickness of the space rather than the accuracy of the form , which was artistic accomplishments of the real painter. He was good at capturing the picture rhythm and the order that were beyond the characteristic of the object in order to convey the unusual painting rhythm.
“ Before, I paid attention to the ration and static when I was creating, but now I cared about the the perceptual, imagery, dynamic...”, Mr.Chen said, a famous old man ‘s “the charm was between the like and unlike” made him understand the necessity of abstracting the object. The concept implied the inner world of the author. “The Heart” and “Fairyland” were the explanation of this concept. The painter should carefully paint, and feel the object and the world from your heart. Then the works can express your thoughts. “The Heart” was the artist's inner feeling; it was the refraction of the image; it was the emotion from the palpitations. “Fairyland” stressed to express the visual space and the instantly mood after the collision of heart and inspiration, producing spiritual artistic conception and spiritual world from pure visual form.
